Data Center/IT Equipment Space Manager

Position:
  • Performs specialized tasks associated with the activities of a specific data center, computer room or machine room.  
  • Includes access control, space assignment, Material/equipment handling and inventory. 
  • Updates access list and rosters and controls entry within the room of rooms
  • Maintains total accountability of devices residing in the machine room
  • Performs property management functions for the machine room/computer room assigned
  • Tracks equipment installed or removed from the assigned machine room as a result of planned/schedule work or unplanned/unscheduled (emergency)work
  • Keeps databases accurate and up to date including activities that result from afterhours service request
  • Provides reports from the databases use
  • Reports maintenance problems and performs routine checks
  • Conducts periodic room audits, room inspections and monitors room cleanliness
  • Manages the power, space and cooling requirements for all installed devices as well as requests for removal installation of new devices
  • Manages a Medium Scale Data Center with 2-3 computer rooms
  • Provides guidance and training to personnel with access to the room as required
  • Performs functions according to Agency Policy and documented standards
 
Professional Experience and Education:
  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of one (1) years related experience in Customer Service, Asset Management, or Inventory Management, preferably in a technical environment
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • General knowledge of inventory and accountability disciplines
  • General knowledge of machine room layout methodologies
  • Background in Access Control or Security Escorting preferred, but not required
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping and crawling
  • Ability to reach above the head and away from the body and with arms and hands
  • Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving of up to 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to use hand trucks, dollies, flat bed carts and pallet jacks (power and manual)
